A big thanks to the McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative (MSSI) for supporting the inaugural CanFlux Workshop through their Catalyst Grant. This workshop brought together researchers, government scientists, private sector stakeholders, Indigenous representatives, and policy makers to co-develop CanFlux – a revitalized national GHG flux observation network. Thanks to everyone who attended! And thanks to the co-conveners Sara Knox, Scott J. Davidson, Oliver Sonnentag, Michelle Garneau, Rosie Howard, Martina Schlaipfer, and Evan Henry.

This workshop engaged a broad community of researchers, Indigenous partners, government agencies, NGOs, and private-sector organizations to co-develop a shared vision for ecosystem-atmosphere flux measurements in Canada through a workshop. This CanFlux Coordination Workshop held on October 8-9, 2025 in Montreal served as an important first step in this process, bringing together more than 120 participants (~half in-person and half online) to define priorities for a scientifically rigorous, operationally sustainable, and Indigenous-partnered national flux network. Participants identified core scientific and policy needs; assessed infrastructure, data, training, and workforce requirements; and explored short-, medium-, and long-term funding and governance options.
